Kinetic artwork Counterpoint
Counterpoint was shown in the summer of 2019 at Pracht in de Gracht, Zaltbommel.
In music theory, counterpoint is means the relationship between two or more (independent) voices. An example of this is a fugue, a form of music in which polyphony and varied repetition play a leading role. Counterpoint is the first major way of writing Western music and differs from the later harmony in viewing the music.
- counterpoint is the relationship between two or more musical lines (or voices) which are harmonically interdependent yet independent in rhythm and melodic contour.
- counterpoint focuses on melodic interaction—only secondarily on the harmonies produced by that interaction.
If you listen to music you are in a different world for a while. It is an intriguing mixture of doing nothing and doing something at the same time. A moment for yourself, a world in which nothing is required for a while and being (listening) is enough.
These two aspects can be found in Counterpoint. Counterpoint is a installation of polyphonic movement, of independent but equal elements that seem to dance in the wind. The varied repetitions take you to a different world. A moment for yourself, a world in which nothing is necessary and being (looking) is enough.
Counterpoint was on display from 1 July to 15 September 2019 in the canals of Zaltbommel.
